About Us

"Many AA's go in for annual or semiannual house cleanings. Many of us also like the experience of an occasional retreat from the outside world where we can quiet down for an undisturbed day or so of self-overhaul and meditation." (Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, pg.89)

The first Prodigal Sons V retreat was started by John T., Ken K., and Fred T. on May 16, 2014 in Leesburg, FL. Since then it has been held twice per year including during the Covid‑19 lock‑down, when the Retreat took place on Zoom. At least 230 men have attended since its inception — many of us more than once.

This is an intensive 12‑Step Retreat weekend for Men who are members of the AA fellowship. Start, refresh, or revisit your 12‑Step Program of Recovery from alcoholism in a small and self‑directed setting. Each of the 12 Steps is presented by an individual member and then discussed by all participants in small breakout groups that stay together all weekend.

The weekend is about fellowship, fun, and the maintenance and growth of your spiritual condition. The lodging is hotel style with one or two men per room. The registration fee pays for all Retreat events and facility use, Supper on Friday evening, 3 meals on Saturday, and Sunday Breakfast served by the facility. Snacks, coffee, Saturday night ice cream and cake, and Sunday sandwich lunch are provided by Prodigal Sons V.

The Retreat opens on Friday with a welcome, round‑robin discussion, and step presentations followed by a bonfire. Morning meditations on the 3rd and 7th step take place before breakfast. Saturday starts the breakout group meetings, more Step Presentations, a recreation break, evening AA speaker meeting, fellowship and bonfire. The Retreat ends Sunday with a round‑robin discussion, lunch, and fellowship.
